Areas we serve in Mallorca
We are based in Manacor and work all over Mallorca. Each part of the island has its own soil and weather, and a garden in the Tramuntana needs different care from a garden by the sea. Below is a short note on each zone, followed by the list of towns we serve.
Travel
Travel costs €30 per visit, IVA included (21 %), and it is the same in every town on the island. The budget calculator adds it for you. If your town is not on the list below, choose “Other town” in the calculator: the travel cost is the same.
The zones
North
Sa Pobla, Muro, Búger, Campanet, Llubí, Alcúdia, Santa Margalida, Port d’Alcúdia and Can Picafort are in the north of the island. Along the bay of Alcúdia the conditions are coastal: sandy soil with some salt, and more wind. These gardens do well with compost, seaweed and plants that tolerate salt.
Raiguer
Inca, Selva, Alaró, Lloseta, Consell, Sencelles and Binissalem lie in the foothills of the Tramuntana. The typical soil is terra rossa, a red clay loam. It is fairly fertile and holds water well, but it compacts easily, so it needs compost, mulch, loosening and plenty of soil life such as earthworms.
Pla de Mallorca
Maria de la Salut, Sineu, Ariany, Sant Joan, Petra, Montuïri, Vilafranca de Bonany and Porreres sit in the central plain. The soil is a heavy clay loam, sometimes salty. It can be waterlogged in winter and very dry in summer. Organic matter, gypsum and raised beds help.
Tramuntana
Pollença, Port de Pollença, Sóller, Port de Sóller, Deià and Valldemossa. In the mountains the soil is often shallow, rocky limestone, low in fertility but very well drained, and there can be frost in winter. The valleys of Sóller and Valldemossa are different: deep alluvial soil on old terraces, the best soil on the island. Gardens that face north need shelter from the cold Tramuntana wind.
Llevant
Artà, Manacor, Sant Llorenç des Cardassar, Son Servera, Porto Cristo, Capdepera and Cala Rajada, in the east of the island. The coastal towns share the coastal conditions: sandy, salty soil and wind. Gardens exposed to the south-east also feel the Xaloc, a warm, dry wind that can dry plants out quickly in summer.
Palma, west and south
Marratxí, Palma, Felanitx, Campos, Llucmajor, Calvià, Santanyí, Ses Salines and Andratx are around Palma, in the west and in the south. By the sea the soil is sandy and salty and gardens face the sea wind. Inland, the soil changes from place to place, so we check it at the first visit.
